The Prime Minister has mentioned Patoda village of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district of Maharashtra in the latest episode of “Mann Ki Baat” radio programme due its outstanding efforts towards cleanliness and environmental conservation.  

About Patoda’s Achievements

  • Patoda village has become a carbon neutral village due to its focus on environmental preservation and cleanliness.
  • Villagers take special care of cleanliness. They don’t throw garbage outside their homes. They support the authority in collecting garbage for their proper disposal.
  • Water is purified before it reaches to river.
  • Villagers use cow dung cakes for last rites of deceased to avoid cutting of trees. In addition, they plant a tree at the place of funeral.
  • These milestones of the village highlight the significance of small habits for the safety of environment.

About Mann Ki Baat

  • “Mann Ki Baat,” is a monthly radio‑cum‑television programme launched by the Prime Minister on October 3, 2014. Broadcast on All India Radio, DD National, DD News, and various digital platforms, it airs on the last Sunday of each month from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Designed as an interactive monologue, the show allows the PM to share ideas, reflections, and success stories from India’s grassroots, often featuring inspiring citizens, self‑help groups, artisans, and social innovators.
  • Over its run, it has spotlighted social campaigns such as ‘Swachh Bharat’, ‘Selfie with Daughter’, water conservation drives like the “Amrit Sarovar” initiative, financial inclusion schemes like PM Jan Dhan and PAHAL, and public health achievements including India being declared trachoma‑free.
  • Episodes have also promoted yoga, traditional culture, economic welfare programmes, and grassroots entrepreneurship, boosting scheme awareness and adoption.
  • By its 100th episode on April 30, 2023, the programme had reached over a billion individual listeners at least once and triggered people‑powered movements nationwide.
